Making a material difference

Crafting an oasis of comfort, using some of Mother Nature’s best ingredients. That’s what we set out to do. Featuring wonderful, natural components like soft, English wool for example (over 7 kgs of it per king size mattress to be precise).

Wool that comes from the gentle climes of Hampshire is very cushiony, very springy - and perfect for mattresses; it’s famed for its qualities of resilience and shape retention, as well as its refreshing breathability.

Those sheep are cleverer than they look.

CoreMax™ sprung base

Few people know more about springs than our mattress experts. So, when they told us they’d discovered a new, even better sprung base design, we were all ears.

The CoreMax™ base is cleverly designed to provide softness at initial touch, but complete body support when you lie down; each king size mattress features up to 1,000 high carbon steel pocketed springs in seven different zones of firmness to match the needs of the different parts of your body – plus it’s reinforced by a steel frame to minimise roll off at the sides.

The result? Cushioned pressure relief and body aligned support. From side to side, top to bottom.

Our patented Aerocoil® springs are central to the award-winning sleep we’re famous for.

There are1,900of thesetitanium alloy micro springsnestling in the upper layers, They work in three, clever ways:

CONTOUR: each small spring compresses, for pressure relief and contoured support

FRESH: they aid the flow of fresh air through the mattress as they compress

CONTROL: their conical shape helps them compress inwards, limiting transfer of movement.

Our Earth mattresses start life on the Hampshire Downs, not in factories. Because that’s the home of the clever sheep who produce that unique Hampshire wool.

The factory where our experienced craftsmen and women work their magic is in Hampshire too. And although we might use high tech machines to give us the precise measurements and weights for every layer, it’s these teams who guide the layers into place, fill and close the mattress - not too tight, not too loose - then tuft and finish each one. It’s a gentle art that requires lots of care and experience to do properly.
